ABOUT

After completing a Diploma in Landscape Design and Horticulture at Ryde NSW, Robert joined Secret Gardens where he became Senior Design Manager. During his time at Secret Garden, Robert was awarded a multitude of national accolades through AILDM and worked alongside some of Sydney’s most prestigious architects to create residential landscapes that have been featured in publications such as Belle, Inside Out and The Local Project.

In 2017, Robert transitioned to Perth where he joined TDL, ECO Outdoor and Milieu Creative.

With over 14 years’ experience, Robert has a broad range of landscape design and horticultural experience in residential projects, both large and small scale.

He has developed a strong reputation in his ability to work with clients and consultants collaborating throughout the design and construction phases, in both Sydney and Perth.

Robert Finnie Landscape Design was established in 2020 and is currently completing projects in Cottesloe, Claremont, Yallingup and Sydney.

APPROACH

With a true passion for design and horticulture, Robert’s principles are to show restraint when selecting a material palette and to ensure there is good movement and circulation throughout a space.

His signature planting style pays homage to each site and its architecture, ensuring the botanical elements are proportionately balanced with the built forms. Having designed gardens from small, compact spaces in Sydney’s Paddington, to large, open country-style properties in Eagle Bay and Yallingup, Robert focuses on the connection of the site. He takes into consideration not only site conditions, aspect, and style of architecture but also ensures the personality, individuality and lifestyle needs of the client is evident in the final product.

We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people of the Bibbulmun Nation; the custodians of the land on which we so passionately design, build, furbish and decorate our beautiful havens. We also acknowledge the continuing culture of the Whadjuk Noongar people and the influences they have on our architecture, gardens, interior design and decor, and we pay our respects to elders past and present.
